Flipped Simulation Learning

It was really interesting day yesterday. We have a "emergency medical service teachers team" in Vocational Education Centre Sedu (Finland, Seinäjoki, Koskenalantie). And we have a really activity paramedic students group, exactly there are tree activity groups of them.

We have a target. We want learn something more about EMS (emergency medical service). We think, that you can learn by teaching. So, we change roles. Students will be simulation-instructors and teachers will be actors. 

Traffic accident case by Flipped Simulation Learning: 

Teachers are actors and students are simulation-instructors.

First:
Students decided targets about the simulation scenario. They read books, they made group discussions, they made a big essee about theoretical things and they made simulation scenario plan.

Second (step 1):
We had really good "full-scale-simulation". There was a car accident. Two cars and three injured (Gaumard HALL patient simulator, student and baby doll). Teachers had two ambulances (they were paramedics) and there was "Rescue Department" and police officers with them (students role).

Second (step 2):
The same patients came to ER (emergency room). Teachers were nurses and students were paramedics, doctors, social duty officer... Teachers took care of patients.

Third:
We had a good and deep debriefing discussion. Students were simulation-instructors still. Teachers explained and analyzed own simulation role. Why did I do this, I wonder that, I think that, everything went...

Fourth (this step is not ready yet):
Teachers will read simulation scenario papers and students own conclusions about whole thing. Teachers will make a large feedback discussion about students work.

Conclusion:
We can recommend this "Flipped Simulation Learning" method.
